I have always loved Singapore. This is the only home I have known, just like many other Singaporeans. This year (2012), our ministers have urged us in the National Day Rally to step up and join the National Conversation. I see it as a civil duty to answer this call as our nation drifts into rougher waters in this new generation.
The challenges we face are aplenty, and many are complex with no clear-cut resolution. As Singaporeans, we have previously always counted on our government to lead the way through the dark times. Now that the administration needs our help, we cannot turn our backs on them and the nation we have built together. Speak up, brainstorm together and be one people.
I opened this blog to express my personal opinion about the issues in SG. You may or may not agree, but there is no intention to belittle or entirely reject opposing views. This generation of Singaporeans are an educated bunch I know, but there is a whole lot of extremism and prejudice going on that I don’t quite understand. Debate if you will, but do it with respect and consideration.
All comments are of course very welcome, even from the FTs here in SG to the random reader who may or may not know where or what Singapore is. To me, politics is in essence the same everywhere because it is in the end about safeguarding a better life for oneself and his family. I myself follow politics internationally and find there are relevant lessons to be learned for SG from China to Europe. So, do comment, draw parallels, examples, or give a different view and rebuke a point. This is after all, a conversation.
